3 Ways to Pull Yourself out of a Funk

Have you ever just been stuck in a funk? Maybe something happened and you just feel stuck. You want to just let it go and move on but it feels like cement is holding your feet down. I’ve been there many, many times. It’s not a fun space to sit in so I’ve come up with a few ways to help pull me out of it. I thought they may be helpful to you so here they are.


The first thing I do is pray. I have found it to be amazingly helpful to pray and ask for help. I have a really solid relationship with Jesus and He has literally never let me down. If that’s not your thing that’s okay but I do highly recommend it. 


The next thing I do is give myself a pep talk. Sometimes we need a really good friend to shake us out of our funk but they’re not always available. That’s when I reach deep within myself and speak life. So often we can be our own worst critic and that needs to stop. Who better to depend on than the person staring back in the mirror? We need to be our biggest cheerleaders because sometimes we’re all we’ve got. My pep talks generally go something like this.


“Hey girl. I know. That sucked. Like really really sucked. But you have options here. You can either throw a well deserved pity party, or you can pick yourself back up, dust yourself off and rise up. What’s it gonna be? You know you have what it takes to get through this. You know you can do all things through Him who strengthens you. So get up girl. Don’t let this be the thing that makes you quit.”

The third thing I do to pull myself out of a funk is pull out what I call my emotional support oils. There are emotional support animals, workers, and I’m adding oils to the list. Seriously. When I’m struggling to forgive I pull out forgiveness. When I feel like a piece of trash, I pull out highest potential. When I can’t stop crying I pull out joy. Do these oils heal me? No. But they definitely support my emotional wellness and for that I’m grateful.
